SHOALWATER BAY MILITARY EXPANSION
Defence is currently working with Livingstone Shire Council to establish a long-term agreement on road maintenance.
The expansion of the SWBTA will reduce the number of properties which need to be serviced by the Livingstone Shire Council.
The Defence estate is not provided services by council like other rateable land. Where Defence requires services from a local council, such as for waste or garbage collection, it will do so on a pay for service arrangement.
Defence does use council maintained roads to access its training areas and does contribute to the Livingstone Shire Council for the upkeep and maintenance of roads used by the Australian Defence Force.
Since 2001, Defence has contributed over $10 million to the Livingstone Shire Council and Rockhampton Regional Council for road maintenance.
