From humble roots to humble leadership

Michelle was born in the Rockhampton Hospital

Michelle’s parents Bill and Gloria Martin ran Lucky Daniel’s Casket Agency in William St, Rockhampton for over 21 years.

In 1969, when Neil Armstrong took his first steps onto the moon, Michelle recalls her father setting up an old black and white TV set in the shop window.  “Dad wanted to make sure that people who couldn’t afford a television, could still experience the event of a generation,” Michelle says.  “I learnt a lesson that day. A lesson in unassuming generosity, for which my father, like many small business owners in country towns across the country, are renowned. “It taught me about community spirit; consideration for others; and a willingness to stop and listen, with an open mind,” she said.

Michelle remembers standing on a box in the shop writing out casket tickets and talking to the customers.

Completed Secondary School at Rockhampton Girls Grammar

Michelle was an officer with the National Australia Bank for 22 years before establishing her own book keeping business in Central Queensland.  Previously she worked as a pathology and medical biochemistry lab assistant
