Giving back to our volunteers in Capricornia

Volunteers from 11 organisations in Capricornia are among nearly 100, 000 volunteers across Australia benefiting from $10 million in Australian Government grants to support community organisations.

Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, said the Coalition Government’s investment is delivering vital support to small community organisations.

“The Volunteer Grants will assist a range of local groups including the Capricorn Branch of the Queensland Netball Association, Collinsville Amateur Swimming Club, Clermont Men’s Shed, Clermont Pony Club, Australian Outrigger Canoe Racing Association, Gawula Aboriginal Land Trust, Rockhampton Mallet Sports Club and the Rockhampton High P&C Association,” Ms Landry said.

“The grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 enable these organisations to better support their volunteers by purchasing much-needed equipment, training and transport,” she said.

The grants will be used for a variety of purposes including the reimbursement of fuel costs, outdoor furniture and equipment, landscaping, power tools and volunteer training costs.

“Next week, from 8th May, is National Volunteer Week, when we acknowledge the important work of our volunteers and their organisations in building stronger communities.

“The energy, expertise and time our volunteers give to our community supports those most in need and represents what Central Queensland communities are all about – giving a helping hand.

“I’m glad to see that our local organisations will have this support to continue their valuable work,” Ms Landry said.
