Landry tells Lauga: We need to attract investors, not attack them

Federal Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry says that while other business and community leaders are working together to grow job opportunities in Central Queensland, the current Member for Keppel seems committed on destroying them.

“Ms Lauga is creating a smear campaign against developers, to mask her own failure to support resort and agricultural development,” Ms Landry said.

“This sends a very negative message to potential investors and puts future development, on GKI or elsewhere, at terrible risk.

“I have never seen a Member so determined to destroy employment opportunities in their own electorate.

“It’s very easy to point fingers at Tower Holdings, but when you look at the environment they have had to operate in, it’s no wonder they haven’t been able to attract investors.

Ms Landry estimates that Tower Holding have spent over $40 Million to date to progress plans for the Great Keppel Island redevelopment, but said they have had to fight tooth and nail against a state Government that constantly moves the goal post to appease the greens.

“The conditions placed on any developments in Australia are amongst the most stringent in the world,” she said.

“While this is important for environmental protections, we have to accept that it impacts ability to be competitive in the international tourism market.

“By attacking the very people Ms Lauga should be helping to progress plans and helping get projects across the line, she is essentially saying that development of any kind isn’t welcome in Keppel.

“This is a perfect example of how Ms Lauga continues to appease the far left and this is costing our local economy.

“I encourage Ms Lauga to work with the rest of us to make Central Queensland an appealing place to invest, to work with us to grow the economy, and to stop setting job creating projects back just to win a green preference.”
