Landry Continues Fight for Adani FIFO Hub

Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, today reinforced her ardent support for Rockhampton to become Adani’s Fly-In-Fly-Out hub for their $16.5 billion Carmichael mine development.

The tenacious local member said the region was the perfect location to base Adani’s workforce due to its status as a well-resourced, city with strong, welcoming communities and among the most affordable housing in the country.

“Rockhampton is the obvious choice to base a workforce for the Galilee Basin, it is close, it has a wonderful climate, and a world-class airport to utilise.

“I know Adani will make the decision on purely economic lines and I really think the Rockhampton region offers the best opportunity for the company to provide their workers with a comfortable, enjoyable community that already has quite a large contingent of drive-in-drive-out workers.” said Ms Landry.

“I love this region and I know that given the chance, Adani’s FIFO workers will come to love it as well.”

Ms Landry recently met with Adani executives to discuss a range of subjects, including the opportunity for Rockhampton to become the company’s FIFO Hub and the allegations being levelled at Adani regarding environmental damage.

Ms Landry said she had no qualms with Adani operating in Australia given the stringent environmental controls placed on them.

“This Carmichael mine is the most regulated mine site ever approved in this country.

“There really is no wiggle room for this mine to adversely damage the environment or to take unlimited free water.

“Adani is required to pay an up-front fee of $20M and is restricted to the equivalent of one per cent of the water available to neighbouring graziers.

“This should provide certainty of supply for local graziers and ensure the mine is doing its part to keep the Great Artesian Basin productive.” Ms Landry said.

Adani is yet to announce their FIFO Hub for the Carmichael mine but general expectations are that it will be announced soon.
