Landry & Adani Deliver FIFO Hub for Rockhampton

Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, has welcomed Adani’s decision to announce Rockhampton as one of its Fly-In-Fly-Out Hubs for the construction phase of the Carmichael coal mine in the Galilee Basin.

“This is great news for Rockhampton, and its great news for the whole region.

“Adani’s investment in Central Queensland is a significant one with the Carmichael mine expected to cost $16.5 billion to construct, delivering thousands of jobs to the region.

“I have worked hard advocating for Rocky to become the FIFO hub and I’m sure this announcement today will certainly be very reassuring to those locals who are concerned about their job security going forward,” said Ms Landry

Ms Landry also mentioned that while today’s announcement was a good one for Rockhampton, the benefits of opening the Galilee Basin would be seen right across the region.

“This will provide a welcome boost to the local economies across Capricornia; not only for Rockhampton but for Mackay and smaller centres like Nebo, Moranbah, Dysart, Clermont, as these will still be well placed to deliver service and maintenance to what will be a very large operation.

“Adani’s commitment so far to CQ has been enormous, with local company AusTrak securing an $82 million contract to supply sleepers for the 388km rail line.

“This is the rail line that will open the Galilee Basin to the world and it will be built using locally designed and locally made railway sleepers.” Ms Landry said.

“Today’s announcement builds on the previous positive announcements from Adani and I will keep up my fight for local jobs.”
