QLD Labor Clearly Not Fair-Dinkum on Dams
Federal Members for Capricornia and Flynn, Michelle Landry, and Ken O’Dowd, have today revealed that despite being offered full funding for the Rookwood Weir project, the State Government refuses to act.
The two passionate Central Queensland MPs said they were fed up with a do-nothing Labor State Government.
“Central Queenslanders have waited long enough. Despite the Federal Government providing $130 million (or half of construction costs) at the last year’s election, and the Prime Minister doubling the offer earlier this year, this Queensland Government simply refuses to develop Central Queensland and grow the economy.” Ms Landry said.
“Just what are they waiting for? Labor needs to get out of the road so Central Queensland can get ahead.” Ms Landry said.
Central Queensland unemployment has reached 14-year highs recently and with hundreds of construction and thousands of ongoing jobs connected to the project, frustration is obvious in local businesses and MPs.
Flynn MP, Ken O’Dowd, says it is just another example of Labor placing greater emphasis on inner-city political needs ahead of the needs of regional Queenslanders.
“When you offer someone $130M toward construction and $2M for the business case, one would expect to see some action, Labor has been offered all the money needed and still won’t start the dozers!
“The real issue is clear; this State Government simply don’t understand agriculture and don’t understand infrastructure.
“They are being led by the negativity of latte-sippers in West End instead of delivering a project that will create jobs and deliver vital water supply to grow the Central Queensland economy.
“I suppose you can lead a Premier to a water project, but you can’t make them build.” said Mr O’Dowd.
