CQ Mobile Reception Boosted with Tower Switch-On
The residents of Mt Chalmers have something to cheer about today, thanks to the tenacious work of their local MP. Hard-working Federal MP for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, today announced that the recently completed mobile tower in Mt Chalmers, funded under the Federal Government’s Mobile Blackspots Programme, would be switched on. Ms Landry, who has fought for better communications throughout Capricornia since her election in 2013, is pleased with the completion of this tower. “This is great news for Mount Chalmers and the thousand plus vehicles that travel through the area each day” Ms Landry said.
“This tower is a commitment under Round 1 of the Government’s Mobile Black Spots Program.” “It’s great to switch on this new tower today, the 50th tower switched on in Queensland under this program.” Ms Landry explains that this project was a team effort, with the Livingstone Shire Council identifying the need, the Federal Government funding the project and Telstra delivering the infrastructure. “The Livingstone Shire Council is good example of a Council who made a strong co‑contribution to a base station to ensure a local priority black spot is addressed at Mt Chalmers.” Ms Landry said. “This base station will address a known black spot that Livingstone Shire Council estimates affects approximately 114 occupied properties in the area, comprising of farming, grazing and residential homes.” Ms Landry explains that this is not the last tower for Capricornia, with the Federal Government starting to rollout additional towers under Round 2 of the Program. “I’ve had discussions with Minister Fifield in regards to communications issues in Capricornia and have been lobbying for more towers in Round Two, throughout Capricornia” Ms Landry said. “The locations for round 2 of the Mobile Black Spot Program were selected following an appeal to the public to nominate black spots. “Many constituents nominated their areas as needing further coverage and I’m in discussions with the Minister to get the best outcome for Capricornia.”
