Celebrate Ag Day in Capricornia

Today marks the inaugural National Agriculture and Related Industries Day, a day to celebrate our agricultural industries across Capricornia and acknowledge the significant contribution they make.

The Hard working Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry MP, today thanked local farmers for their efforts feeding and clothing Australians and people the world over, and encouraged locals to get involved in Ag Day.

“Today is the first nationwide celebration of Australia’s agriculture and related industries, which contribute so much to individuals, the Capricornia region, our nation and the world,” Ms Landry said.

“Here in Capricornia, the beef industry is vital to our local economy.

“We have the highest density of beef per sq. kilometre of any region of Australia

“And we host the world-renowned “Beef Australia” expo every 3 years, bringing tens of thousands of graziers and agriculturalists to Rockhampton

“Today is about recognising the important role farmers and agricultural industries have played in bringing prosperity to our continent and building a unique Australian culture.

“It’s a sector that continues to perform year after year and is one of the cornerstones of the Australian economy, with the value of Australian agricultural production exceeding $60 billion for the first time in 2016–17.

“The total value of Australian farm exports increased by $7 billion over the past six years—from $38 billion in 2012-13 to a forecast $45.2 billion in 2017–18.

“Agriculture and affiliated industries also provide jobs to about 12 million Australians.

“Ag Day is about getting much-deserved recognition for our agriculture sector and related industries, such as transport and rural supplies businesses, stock and station agents and accountants.

“I encourage everyone to celebrate agriculture today and recognise our farmers’ efforts.

“They make a vital contribution to our community, the national economy and a better way of life for all.”
