Yeppoon will undergo a major transformation and ignite its tourism industry when the proposed Keppel Bay Sailing Club Convention and Sporting Hub is built on Yeppoon’s foreshore.

Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry said the vision for the proposed hub includes a 1000+ seat convention centre, accommodation, retail stores and a central point for the sporting community to meet and conduct major events.

“The hub will attract businesses, tourists and locals alike to Yeppoon, which will help boost Yeppoon’s tourism industry and economy.

“Yeppoon has come a long way over the past couple of years, particularly with the uplift of the town centre and construction of Keppel Kraken and Yeppoon Lagoon.

“It would be great to keep the momentum going with a project like this,” Ms Landry said.

An Economic Impact Assessment Report estimates that the project would generate $8.2 million into the local economy annually through an increase in visitor nights and employment opportunities.

Senator for Queensland Matthew Canavan said the project will create short and long term employment opportunities both during and after construction.

“When Queensland’s unemployment rate sits above the national average, job creation is essential,” Senator Canavan said.

Keppel Bay Sailing Club Manager Julie Strudwick said the Club currently employs over 125 staff and 75 new staff would be recruited once the project is complete.

"Youth job seekers in particular will benefit from our Club’s award winning training program," Ms Strudwick said.

“We’d really like to see this project transform from vision to reality, it will do wonders for Yeppoon and the Capricorn Coast."
