Landry Nets $330,000 to Upgrade Local Facilities
Capricorn Coast Netball Association is being supported to construct two sealed concrete netball courts and upgrade facilities at the Barmaryee Multisport Precinct, thanks to a $330,000 grant from the federal Liberal National Government.
The Minister for Sport, Senator Bridget McKenzie, and Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, announced the grant funding at the Sports Precinct in Yeppoon today. The funding is part of the Liberal National Government’s additional $30 million Move it AUS Community Sport Infrastructure Grant programme.
“The Liberal National Government understands that our success and prowess as a sporting nation begins with grassroots sports, which is why we have focused our investment on local grassroots sporting facilities such as the Barmaryee Sports Precinct,” Minister McKenzie said.
“As outlined in the National Sports Plan, Sport 2030, grassroots sports help drive increased participation and promote social, health and community benefits of physical activity and sport – a key priority for our government.
“Demand for funding under the Community Sport Infrastructure Grant program was overwhelming, with the number of applications received far greater than could be accommodated.
“Today’s grant is a testament to the quality of application put forward by the Capricorn Coast Netball Association, acknowledging the growth of netball participation across all ages and genders – and also Ms Landry’s tireless advocacy for the interests of people living in her electorate of Capricornia.”
Ms Landry said the grant would make a significant contribution towards the overall cost of the project. “This financial support will go a long way towards seeing two lit, synthetic sealed concrete netball courts built as well as shaded seating at the Barmaryee Multisport Precinct,” Ms Landry said.
“Netball participation is growing across all ages, genders and abilities. These projects will help the Capricorn Coast Netball Association cater for that increased interest.”
