Parking Pains Parked Thanks to Priceless Project

Staff, patients, and visitors at Rockhampton Hospital can now park with ease, thanks to a new four storey car park that officially opened today.

Federal Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry, who attended today’s official opening, said she was thrilled to see the project complete.

“Boasting 597 parking spaces, it is expected that 350 people will use the car park every day, with that number growing over time as the hospital expands its services,” Ms Landry said.

“The secure onsite parking will significantly reduce congestion in neighbouring streets and help patients make it to appointments on time,” said Ms Landry.

“This is a project I had to fight for and never gave up on; I am thrilled to see it finally open and in operation.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the $25.5 million project is a vital investment in the future of Rockhampton.

“The project, which supported 65 jobs during construction and creates two ongoing local jobs, will inject a healthy boost into the region’s economy as well as supporting the hospital community,” Mr McCormack said.

“Complete with 21 disabled parking spaces, this welcome addition to the Rockhampton Hospital will cater to all staff, patients and their visitors.”

The project was jointly funded with the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government investing $7 million, the Queensland Government $18.25 million and the Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service $250,000.
