Riverslea Bridge opened thanks to $12.5 million from Federal Government

Federal Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry has joined Senator Matt Canavan along with representatives from the State Government and councillors from Rockhampton Regional Council to open the $12.5 million Riverslea Bridge.

This new bridge has provided jobs for more than 30 Central Queenslanders and concrete for the bridge was sourced from Humes, a Rockhampton based contractor.

Ms Landry said “It’s another great day for the people of Central Queensland. This $12.5 million investment from the Federal Government will make such a difference as it replaces the existing crossing which would have otherwise been inundated when Rookwood Weir reaches full supply. Before this new bridge, the existing crossing would literally go under water for weeks at a time during the wet season, forcing residents to cross by boat.”

This is the third road upgrade to be delivered as part of the Rookwood Weir Project that will provide water to boost growth and jobs in Central Queensland.

“I am so proud to get this project going for the people of Central Queensland. Just in the last month we have announced:

  • Rookwood Weir will be built to its full capacity
  • The opening of on-site accommodation
  • The commencement of Weir Construction and now,
  • The opening of the Riverslea Bridge

The new bridge is already provided safety benefits for the community, allowing families to get their kids to school and quicker trips to nearby towns.” Ms Landry said
