Hard-working federal MP Michelle Landry, says she will continue fighting for Rockhampton, to ensure Adani hosts its major fly-in, fly-out hub in the city.
Adani’s Australian CEO Jeyakumar Janakaraj (Jay Jay) announced today that both Rockhampton and Townsville are in the running to host the company’s main workers’ hub.
“My colleagues and I have spoken with Adani executives, and the message is clear: Rockhampton is very well placed to host this FIFO hub,” Ms Landry said.
“Rockhampton is on the shortlist, and a decision will be made next year.
“Adani’s proposal gives Rockhampton and Central Queensland a real opportunity to revitalise our local economy.
“It will create thousands of construction and mining jobs in our region, which will in-turn pump millions of dollars into local shops and small businesses.
“I am pushing very hard for this to happen, and my strong advocacy has been noted this morning by the Federal Minister for Resources Matt Canavan. (*see full quote below)
“I also congratulate the Rockhampton Regional Council, for its work making the case to Adani to host the Carmichael coal mine FIFO hub.
Ms Landry has called for all local political leaders to unite behind Rockhampton’s pitch to host Adani’s major FIFO hub.
“This is not the time for party politics,” Ms Landry said.
“Townsville was named Adani’s regional HQ because all their local political leaders, from both sides, backed their city’s pitch.
“I am fighting for Rockhampton to host Adani’s FIFO hub; the Rockhampton Council and Mayor Margaret Strelow are fighting to host Adani’s FIFO hub.
“All we need now is for our State MPs to declare what they are doing to attract this once-in-a-lifetime investment.”

“I spoke to Adani yesterday about that, and Rockhampton is very well placed and is in the shortlist of places for that. I am hopeful for positive news on that, and people like Michelle Landry are pushing that case very hard for Rockhampton, and hopefully that positive news will come.”
