Hardworking Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry has thrown her support behind Queensland Canegrowers in their dispute with Wilmar over sugar marketing.
The Queensland LNP has today moved the Sugar Industry Act in State Parliament, which will force foreign-owned Wilmar to go to arbitration with QSL over the impasse.
“Wilmar is holding 1,500 cane growers to ransom, by unfairly holding out over its dispute with QSL,” Ms Landry said.
“I met with Canegrowers Mackay last Friday morning, and this is the number one issue affecting sugar producers in Central and North Queensland.
“This is affecting jobs and local businesses right across the region.
“Annastacia Palaszczuk could end this mess right now, by siding with sugar farmers in regional Queensland over a foreign owned company.
“By moving mandatory arbitration legislation, the State LNP is taking real leadership on this issue.
“I have every faith the LNP will see this fight to the end.”
