Landry call to Adani pays dividends for Rockhampton

June 2, 2017

A late night call to Adani by Federal Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry yesterday has delivered an $82 Million contract for Rockhampton.

“I spoke to Adani last night, asking the company to bring forward announcements on contracts for the North Galilee Basin Rail Line in light of Aurizon job losses.  Adani heard our concerns and today I am pleased that after 18 months of lobbying Adani to commit to local jobs, today they have delivered,” Ms Landry said.

"I have consistently advocated for the Carmichael Mine and the 388 km rail line that will deliver much needed jobs for Central Queensland," Ms Landry said.

"Last night I put in a call to reiterate my support and reinforce Rockhampton's ability to deliver goods and services through companies like AusTrak.

"With yesterday's announcement by Aurizon, there will be a huge amount of frustration and uncertainty in Rockhampton households, so the sooner we can create new work opportunities the better it will be for those families.

Rockhampton company AusTrak will fill a contract worth more than $82 million to supply concrete sleepers to Adani Australia for the Carmichael mine project’s rail line.

The deal will see AusTrak triple its workforce to more than 80 and generate up to 30 supply chain jobs, and provide job security for the two-year life of the contract.

Adani Australia Head of Country and Chief Executive, Jeyakumar Janakaraj paid tribute to regional Queenslanders for their support of the Adani project.

“I want to pay particular tribute to the Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, who has promoted AusTrak to Adani from the day we announced our project.

“Adani promised that regional Queenslanders would benefit from our project – and here’s the proof that we honour our promises and we care about regional

Queenslanders,” Mr Janakaraj said.

“This is another step in Adani’s plan to build a long-term future with regional Queensland.

“While others are looking for ways out, we are looking to the future.”
