ROCKHAMPTON BASKETBALL SECURES $228,869 TO UPGRADE FACILITY

December 19, 2018

The hard-working Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, has announced $228,869 in Federal Coalition Government funding to upgrade and improve the Rockhampton Basketball sporting facilities.
Rockhampton Basketball received funding through the Community Sport Infrastructure Grant program that is investing $28 million in 223 projects across Australia to help drive increased participation in sports and physical activity.
“This investment in local grassroots sport is great news for Rockhampton. Sporting facilities such as Rockhampton Basketball are vital for ensuring physical activity and a healthy lifestyle but also for building community spirit and pride.’ Ms Landry said.
Rockhampton Basketball president, Grant Searles, welcomed the news and said everyone is extremely excited and can’t wait to get the project started.
“The funding will be used to construct a roof structure fitted with LED lighting over the outside court. This will transform the space into a top-notch weather protected facility with all year round access.” Ms Landry said.
President Searles said ‘this will significantly boost participation rates, particular in juniors and will offer extra space with lower running costs compared to our indoor facilities.’
The number of applications received nationally – over 2,000 – was far more than anticipated and to meet the obvious interest, the Federal Coalition Government will allocate an additional $30 million for projects in early 2019 from the existing pool of applications.
“This demand has demonstrated that sporting and community organisations are crying out for help to upgrade their facilities. Due to the Federal Coalition Government’s responsible economic management and delivery of a budget surplus, we are in the position to increase investment in these great community projects. Ms Landry said.
