Federal Member for Capricornia and Assistant Minister for Children and Families, Michelle Landry, has commended first responders who have battled bushfires across Queensland and the Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel who have supported them.
“Emergency services and the ADF are once again showing their professionalism and dedication in the face of very difficult conditions.
“I also wish to commend the hard work of the first responders who are working to keep the communities safe in Queensland and in Capricornia.
“My thoughts and prayers are with all of the families who have been impacted by these bushfires”, Ms Landry said.
The ADF has been providing support to firefighters in Queensland through the provision of access to Defence airfields, water re-supply, accommodation for interstate fire fighters and logistics.
This support has included:
The provision of water and logistics support including accommodation, supplies and transportation to NSW, SA, VIC and ACT and Queensland firefighters.
As of midday on Wednesday, 11 September 2019, around 130 fires continue to burn across Queensland and New South Wales, including around 5,000 hectares impacted by the fires around Canungra, Witheren, Beechmont, Binna Burra and Lamington National Park.
Ms Landry urges all people potentially affected by bushfires to follow the instruction of local emergency services.
“There are no ifs, ands, or buts. Follow the advice of all fire and emergency services and evacuate when you are ordered to”, Ms Landry said.
